The Claude Extension Is Great for Certification Study ── Taking On the SAP in 15 Days

I took on the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional (SAP) exam 15 days after I started studying, and passed on July 2 with a score of 802. I had more than 10 years of hands-on experience, but my certifications had lapsed. This is a record of how I combined CloudTech's practice questions with the Claude extension and used a study method of "building understanding through dialogue": never asking for the answer, always arguing my own reasoning first. It let me really grasp even services I had never used, as if I had actually used them.

AWS Access Management in the AI Era: From IAM Users to SSO + AssumeRole

When AI coding agents run shell commands on their own, the risk of long-term access keys (AKIA…) sitting on your PC goes up a notch. This is our record of dropping per-client IAM users and standardizing on a single approach: log in once to MOOBON's SSO, then switch into each account with AssumeRole. We share first-hand, reproducible steps, from the design rationale (temporary credentials, MFA, trust policies) to writing ~/.aws/config, aws sso login, the pitfall where the console's "Switch role" doesn't work, and generating a sign-in URL.

RDS for MySQL 8.0 Extended Support Is Expensive: Move to 8.4 Early

Standard support for RDS for MySQL 8.0 ends on July 31, 2026, and Extended Support charges start on August 1. They're steep and easy to overlook: in Tokyo, even a single 2 vCPU instance adds $175/month (about ¥28,000, nearly 10x the instance cost), three instances add ¥84,000/month, and Multi-AZ doubles it. Finish the upgrade within standard support and you pay nothing. A first-hand record of migrating three of our production RDS instances to 8.4 LTS (8.4.9) with Blue/Green Deployments and under one minute of downtime, plus three easy-to-miss pitfalls (MyISAM / option groups / deletion protection).

AWS Cost Reduction: Slashing Bandwidth Costs for a VR Video Streaming Service

A case study on drastically cutting the AWS bill of a service that streams 1.7TB / 3,200+ VR videos, with data transfer (its biggest cost driver) as the main target. We break down the gap between what the invoice line items say and what is actually billed (transfer, EBS, Extended Support fees), then walk through two changes of direction (CloudFront abandoned → Cloudflare R2 rejected → Bunny.net adopted) before landing on a three-tier setup that uses CloudFront as Bunny's origin and Perma-Cache for persistence. Also covers an end-to-end test with a 760MB video, day-to-day operations, failover, and an instant-rollback design, all from first-hand experience (figures are estimates).

Implementing a PWA in Rails 8 (Phase 1+2)

The PWA scaffold that Rails 8 generates (manifest.json.erb / service-worker.js) is almost empty. This first-hand implementation log of Phase 1+2 of our in-house certification study app covers everything it takes to turn it into a real PWA: a proper manifest, five icon variants, iOS-specific meta tags, a Stimulus-based install prompt, Service Worker caching strategies, and an offline fallback.

How We Cut a Rails CSV Download from 60s to 1.5s (40x Faster)

A real-world case of fixing a Rails CSV download that kept timing out, without moving it to background jobs or batch processing. Reworking only the export logic took it from 60s to 1.5s (40x faster). We walk through the rewrite to a streaming response with Enumerator + response_body and explain why we chose not to do a major overhaul, with measurements throughout.

Running WordPress with Claude Code (SSH): WooCommerce Across 6 Major Versions

On a WordPress project where we had been deliberately cautious about major version upgrades because of compatibility-testing costs and the risk of a custom child theme, we moved forward step by step by having Claude Code run WP-CLI over SSH. This write-up covers the Kinsta Staging snapshot safety net, the division of labor that keeps Phase state in CLAUDE.md and docs/tasks/, and where we draw the line with a human final approval. First-hand data: WooCommerce 4.5.5 → 10.0.4 (6 major versions), outdated template warnings 35+ → 1, and on a single product page -42% queries / -30% peak memory / -37% PHP generation time, plus a defense against accidental customer emails.

Cutting the NAT Gateway Bill: Moving to fck-nat While Keeping a Static IP

Once the monthly NAT Gateway bill (hourly charge + data processing charge) starts piling up, it becomes a prime candidate for review. This is our record of replacing NAT Gateway with fck-nat while keeping a static egress IP for ECS. We share first-hand details: an AMI v1.4.0 + ASG min=max=desired=1 + automatic EIP attachment setup, a systemd unit that runs as Type=oneshot, the reality of rewriting the Launch Template six times, actual Cost Explorer numbers ($109/month → $11/month), and operational caveats.

How One Checkbox in ACM Cost Us $430: An Incident Record

We issued 10 ACM public certificates with the Exportable option left ON, and $430 (FQDN $7×5 + wildcard $79×5) was booked in an instant. We explain why this trap can't be contained by after-the-fact detection, since the full fee is locked in the moment a certificate is issued, and share a prevention checklist for blocking it before issuance.
