Project Overview
A complete renewal of the system supporting Kamishihoro Town, Hokkaido, which has successfully revitalized the region using Furusato Nozei (hometown tax donations) as a funding source. The management system handles an enormous volume of donation data.
We started development after proposing, in advance, mechanisms that allow the municipal staff who operate and manage the data to work efficiently.
Challenges
The biggest problem with the previous management system was processing speed. The time each operation took was eating into staff working hours every day. The new system had to greatly improve the speed of each operation while providing rich search functions.
The most critical phase of this project was data migration.
Every day, donation requests from donors across Japan and shipping data for return gifts are generated.
š At the system switchover (release), data had to be migrated seamlessly from the old system to the new one. Working overnight in coordination with the municipality, we completed the migration and had the new system running the next day.
Our Approach
Since past data had accumulated in the old system, we carefully checked the processing time of display, search, and every other operation on each page of the new system after migration, and succeeded in greatly improving processing speed.
There are also many Furusato Nozei portal sites in Japan, each exporting import data in its own format. We took care to make the function that imports this data into the new system highly maintainable and easy to modify.
